Besides Susan B. Anthony[q99], who was the first U.S. woman to cast a vote (illegally, on November 5, 1872 in New York state) and pushed for the passage of the 19th amendment to give all women the right to vote, other women were powerful voices for the rights of women and ending slavery in the United States in the 19th century.

Elizabeth Cady Stanton co-organized the 1848 Seneca Falls Convention and authored the Declaration of Sentiments, which launched the organized women's rights movement in the United States. She worked in partnership with Susan B. Anthony for over 50 years, serving as the intellectual force and writer of the movement. Stanton was president of the National Woman Suffrage Association and advocated for women's property rights, education, and suffrage throughout her life.

Lucretia Mott was a Quaker minister and abolitionist who co-organized the 1848 Seneca Falls Convention with Elizabeth Cady Stanton after being excluded from the 1840 World Anti-Slavery Convention due to her sex. She helped write the Declaration of Sentiments and became a leading voice for both abolition and women's rights. Mott and her husband also opened their home as a stop on the Underground Railroad.

Born into slavery as Isabella Baumfree, Sojourner Truth escaped to freedom in 1826 and became a powerful abolitionist and women's rights speaker. She is most famous for her 1851 speech at the Ohio Women's Rights Convention, known as "Ain't I a Woman?" As a formerly enslaved African American woman, she uniquely linked the fight against slavery with the fight for women's rights.

Harriet Tubman escaped slavery in 1849 and became the most famous "conductor" on the Underground Railroad, leading approximately 70 enslaved people to freedom. During the Civil War, she served as a Union spy, scout, and nurse, becoming the first woman to lead a military expedition in U.S. history. After the war, she became an active supporter of the women's suffrage movement and established the Harriet Tubman Home for the Aged.
